Graham Heights
Graham Heights possesses many assets, chiefly the tireless commitment of its 35-year old neighborhood association to making Graham Heights a great place to live. The neighborhood association has received a City of Charlotte Power 2 Live Green Grant which will help Graham Heights Residents save money on their energy bills through home energy audits and an Energy Star Appliance Raffle. Neighborhood Matching Grants will be sought to install neighborhood identification signs. More events are scheduled to bring the residents of Graham Heights together.
Many other positive changes are happening that will add to the assets Graham Heights currently possesses. The Bethlehem Center will be administering a Head Start program serving 300-400 children at the Tryon Hills Pre-K facility. A Charmeck Neighborhood Improvement Project, to begin in September 2012, will create sidewalks and curbs on the neighborhood streets.
The neighborhood contains 3 churches within the neighborhood’s borders. Commercial businesses in the surrounding areas have been receptive to collaborating with the neighborhood. The police, Fire Station No. 11 in the Graham Heights Neighborhood, and members of the City of Charlotte’s Neighborhood & Business Services attend neighborhood association meetings and have a commitment to partnering with the neighborhood. The neighborhood association meets the first Monday of every month at the Walls Memorial AME Zion Church.
Currently, the neighborhood has been an integral partner to the Northwest Community Day which brings together a number of neighborhoods in the Statesville Avenue-Graham Street corridor. In addition, the Graham Heights Neighborhood Association has been doing a neighborhood walk the 3rd Saturday of each month. It has been an opportunity to fellowship, exercise, and learn more about the neighborhood.
